    Maldives Weather

    The Maldives being located north of the equator in the Indian ocean experiences a monsoonal climate. Maldives has two distinct seasons, the dry season (northeast monsoon) and wet season (southwest monsoon).

    Maldives weather - Rainy season running from May to October

    The northeast monsoon occurs from November to April, creating the dry season. The southwest monsoon brings the rainy season, and typically runs from May to October. During this time the Maldives sees strong winds, torrential rain and rough seas.

    Throughout the year, temperature remains almost the same in the Maldives. However, daily temperature ranges from around 31 degrees Celsius during the day to 23 degrees Celsius at night.

    The highest temperature ever recorded in the Maldives is 36.8 degrees Celcius at Kadhdhoo Meteorological Office, recorded on 19 May 1991 . Likewise, the minimum temperature ever recorded in the Maldives is 17.2 degrees celcius recorded at the National Meteorological Centre on 11th April 1978.

    Maldives Islands receives plentiful of sunshine through out the year and enjoys a hot tropical climate, with high humidity. The average temperature is around 28 degrees Celcius, with the heat staying fairly constant throughout the year. March and April are the hottest months, when temperatures can reach up to 32 degrees Celcius.

    Weather in the Maldives - Best time to visit from November to April

    The best time to visit the Maldives is between November and April, when the weather is dry and sunny, and the region receives up to 10 hours of sunshine per day. Visitors around this period get to enjoy temperatures that range from 25 degrees Celcius to 29 degrees Celcius, and gentle coastal breezes.

    Lightweight cottons and linens throughout the year and light waterproofs are recommended for the rainy season.
